Walking Together in Faith

At St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, Christ is at the heart of all that we do. Our faith shapes the way we learn, the way we care for one another and the way we serve our school and wider community.

Together, we form a strong community of faith, supporting one another and helping our children to develop a living relationship with God.

Faith Begins at Home

We recognise that parents are the first and most important educators of their children in faith. When you choose to have your child baptised, you make a commitment to nurture their relationship with God and bring them up within the Catholic faith.

We value the partnership between home, school and parish. By working closely together, we can support each child as they grow in faith, develop their understanding of the teachings of Jesus and discover what it means to live as a follower of Christ.

Our hope is that the faith children experience at school complements and strengthens the faith life of their families at home.

Growing in Faith

Our Religious Education curriculum provides children with opportunities to know and love God, understand Scripture and explore the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church.

Through our RE curriculum, children learn about their faith in ways that encourage them to think, question, pray, reflect and live out the Gospel in their daily lives.

Each year group follows a carefully planned programme based on The Vine and The Branches. Learning is enriched through Scripture, prayer, reflection, discussion and opportunities to put our faith into action.

Our children are encouraged not only to learn about their faith, but to live it, showing kindness, compassion, forgiveness, respect and service to others.

Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are an important part of daily life at St Vincent’s.

Children have opportunities to pray together throughout the school day and take part in daily collective worship and regular liturgical celebrations. We celebrate Mass both in school and in our parish churches, giving children the opportunity to gather together as a community and celebrate our faith.

We want our children to understand that prayer is not simply something we do at a particular time or place. It is a way of developing a relationship with God and recognising His presence in our everyday lives.

Sacramental Preparation

We are privileged to support our children as they prepare to receive the Sacraments.

In Year 3, children prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This is a very special time in the life of our children, their families and our parish communities.

We work closely with parents and the parish throughout this preparation, recognising the important role that families play in nurturing their children's faith.

Through prayer, catechesis, celebration and reflection, we help children to understand the significance of these Sacraments and to recognise their place within God's family.

Let Your Light Shine

Our Catholic faith inspires us to look beyond ourselves and to consider how we can make a difference to the lives of others.

Throughout Key Stage 2, we encourage our pupils to develop as mature, responsible and compassionate citizens, ready to contribute positively to the world around them.

Academic excellence is an important aspiration for every child at St Vincent’s. However, we believe that education is about much more than academic achievement. We seek to nurture the unique, God-given gifts and talents within every child, helping them to discover who they are and how they can use their gifts in the service of others.
