Writing
Intent
The aim of our reading curriculum is to:
- Equip children with the skills to become confident, competent, writers who are able to use writing as a means of expression and as a communication tool.
- Ensure that pupils acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language.
- Ensure that children write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.
How Writing links with our school values:
Be Kind - We write about ourselves and from our experiences in order to develop our compassion.
Be Respectful - We show respect for others through consideration of our audience.
Be Passionate about Learning - We write a range of genres, challenging ourselves to write like authors across the whole curriculum. We draft and edit our work to make sure it is the best that it can be.
Make a Difference - We learn to write confidently and fluently so that we can make our voices heard.
At St Vincent’s we aspire to make the learning ambitious for all learners. Our school curriculum includes the knowledge, skills and life experiences children need to thrive. Our learning is carefully planned and sequenced using the National Curriculum that can be found below:
Knowledge and skills are built on from previous years and there is clear progression in each subject. You can see an overview of progression below:
Each curriculum area is taught across the year and evidenced on a long term plan, divided into half termly blocks. You can see the long term plan below:
