God’s Word at the Heart of Our School
At St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, Scripture is at the heart of our faith.
The Bible is not simply a book that we study. It is the Word of God and a central part of our relationship with Him. Through Scripture, we encounter the story of God's love for His people, come to know Jesus more deeply and discover how we are called to live as Christians.
We want every child at St Vincent’s to develop a love and respect for Sacred Scripture and to recognise its relevance to their own lives.

These words reflect our school mission, ‘Let Your Light Shine’. Scripture guides us, inspires us and helps us to recognise the light of Christ in ourselves and in others.
Encountering Christ Through Scripture
At the centre of our Catholic faith is the person of Jesus Christ. Through the Gospels, children encounter Jesus: His words, His actions, His compassion and His invitation to follow Him.
We encourage our children to listen carefully to the words of Jesus and to reflect on what they mean for their own lives.
Through Scripture, children explore questions such as:

What does this tell us about God?

What does this passage tell us about Jesus?

What is God asking us to do?
-
How can we live out the Gospel in our everyday lives?
-
How can we show God's love to others?
In this way, Scripture becomes something that children hear, understand, reflect upon and live out.
Scripture in Our Curriculum
Scripture is woven throughout our Religious Education curriculum. Children encounter stories, people and teachings from both the Old and New Testaments, developing an understanding of salvation history and the unfolding story of God's relationship with His people.
Through our RE programme, The Vine and The Branches, children develop their knowledge and understanding of Scripture alongside the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
As children progress through the school, they develop the confidence to engage with Scripture in increasingly thoughtful ways. They learn to listen to God's Word, make connections between different passages and consider how Scripture informs Christian belief and action.
Scripture in Prayer and Worship
The Word of God is an essential part of our prayer and worship.
Children hear Scripture regularly through:

daily prayer and collective worship;

liturgical celebrations;

Masses in school and church;
-
assemblies and class worship;

special celebrations throughout the Church's year; and
-
personal reflection and prayer.
We encourage children to listen to Scripture with open hearts and minds, allowing God's Word to speak to them.
Our children are given opportunities not only to hear the Gospel but also to respond through prayer, silence, reflection, music and action.
Living the Word
We believe that knowing Scripture is only part of our journey. We are called to live the Gospel.
Jesus teaches us to love God and to love our neighbour. We therefore encourage our children to put their faith into action through kindness, forgiveness, compassion, service and care for others.
When children help someone who is struggling, forgive a friend, welcome someone who feels alone or stand up for what is right, they are living out the message of the Gospel.
Our mission, ‘Let Your Light Shine’, encourages every child to consider how they can be a light to others.
Scripture and Family Life
We encourage families to share Scripture together at home. Even a few moments spent reading a Gospel passage, talking about its meaning or saying a prayer together can help children to develop a deeper relationship with God.
We recognise that parents are the first and most important educators of their children in faith. By sharing Scripture at home and talking about the Gospel, families can help children to see that faith is not simply something that happens at school or at church, but something that shapes our everyday lives.
Growing in God's Word
Our hope is that every child leaves St Vincent's with a growing love of Sacred Scripture and an understanding that God's Word continues to speak to us today.
We want our children to be able to open the Bible with confidence, listen to its message, ask questions, reflect deeply and recognise the call of Christ in their own lives.
Through Scripture, we come to know Christ.
Through Christ, we discover who we are called to be.
And through living the Gospel, we let our light shine.
