Hour of Code
Lesson: Information and communication technology
We live in a world surrounded by technology and know that whatever field our children choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. Year 2 were recently visited by a representative from Accenture, a leading global professional services company, who have partnered with code.org to deliver the Hour of Code—a global movement to introduce basic computer science to millions of students across the world. The children had a lot of fun creating Star Wars computer games whilst learning some basic concepts of coding. The self-guided tutorials can be accessed at home by anyone on any modern browser, tablet or smartphone via www.code.org/learn. No coding experience is necessary and there are multiple free tutorials, suitable for ages 4 – 104, to try as many times as you like, including Star Wars, Minecraft, Frozen, Hot Wheels and Monster High.
