Welcome to Year Three

Welcome to Year Three!

The children have settled really well into the Junior Department and have adapted well to the new routines.

We have started lots of exciting and different topics and so far we have learnt all about the Stone Age in History. We also wrote our own stories based on the 'Stone Age Boy'. In Science we have been learning our amazing bodies and how to keep healthy. We are looking forward to our new topic when we will be learning all about rocks, soils and fossils.

As the children will be making their First Holy Communion this year, we have been learning about other Sacraments, such as Baptism. We all came together as a year group and re-enacted a Baptism, reflecting on this special event. We are now beginning to reflect on how we can prepare for the birth of Jesus and why Mary was chosen to do such a special job.

Our focus in Maths has been place value and developing our mental strategies. There is a big focus on times tables in Year 3 and we are enjoing TT Rockstars to support this. We also practised telling the time and describing properties of 3d shapes.

In English we have looked at the 'BFG' and we wrote our own narrative with our own giant that we created. We have also performed poetry, focussing on expression, pace and tone. We then wrote our own poem based on the 'Magic Box' by Kit Wright. Our grammar focus has been to use adverbials of time and place and we are now looking prepositions to explain where and when things happen.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to all the exciting things that year 3 has to bring.
