Pupil Premium Information

We are very proud of the outstanding provision for our pupils at St. Vincent's and in particular for those in receipt of the pupil premium grant. Pupil premium is a government initiative which provides additional funding to schools for supporting pupils who are currently entitled to Free School Meals and those that have been at any point in the last six years. Pupil premium is also available to those pupils whose parents serve in the armed forces. The Pupil premium grant is not used to pay for school meals, schools use the funding to improve the attainment of pupils who are eligible. We have been focusing on four key areas:

Securing outstanding outcomes

Enriching the curriculum

Providing pastoral care

Giving financial assistance for extra curricular opportunities

We have two pastoral rooms - The Cosy Corner in the Juniors and The Rainbow Room in the Infants. Here children can attend organised sessions or just 'drop in' for a chat with our pastoral leads, Mrs Gee or Mrs Robinson. The organised sessions could be linked to the 'Happy to be Me' or 'Time to Talk' programmes or a circle time activity. This is carefully planned by Mrs Gee, Mrs Robinson along with the class teacher.

The Starlight Room in the Infants and The Sunshine Room in the Juniors provide a quiet space for interventions. These areas are well resourced with laptops, maths and phonics equipment and pupils work in small groups with a teaching assistant or teacher. This year, Mrs Carr supports pupils across the school in receipt of pupil premium with maths/multiplication, providing consolidation and/or challenge activities; phonics and reading/writing.

Outcomes for our pupils remains a priority and work is targeted so that pupils reach their individual potential. Regular meetings are held with the senior leadership team to assess progress and monitor children's attainment.

To monitor progress on attainment, new measures have been included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. At St. Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, the usual cycle of data collection and the monitoring and tracking of the cohort’s attainment, will be used to inform pupil progress and enable the early identification of need, support and appropriate intervention. Review meetings will take place at each milestone (approximately every term) and will include a member of Senior Management, teachers, TAs and the Pupil Premium Lead.

Pupil Premium Funding and the impact of this is a regular item on the governors’ curriculum and school performance committee agenda and all governors have received training and updates.

Designated staff member in charge: Mrs Sharon Tiernan (Deputy Headteacher)

Pupil Premium Tutor: Mrs H Carr

Nominated governor: Mrs Alice Kilburn

 Eligibility for free school meals

A parent may wish to check their child's eligibility for Pupil Premium or continued free school meals. The more eligible pupils that are registered for free school meals, the more funding the school receives. Registering does not mean your child has to take up free school meals if they don’t want to. You should still register for free school meals even if:

· Your child already receives universal infant free school meals (if they are in reception, year 1 or year 2)

· You would rather your child had a different meal, such as a packed lunch

 Eligibility Criteria

Parents/guardians in England do not have to pay for school meals if they receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • the guaranteed part of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (as long as your annual gross income is £16,190 or less and  you don’t get Working Tax Credit)
  • Working Tax Credit run-off after you come off Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit that you applied for on, or after, 1 April 2018. As long as your household income is less than £7,400 a year after tax, not including any benefits

Children who receive these benefits themselves instead of through a parent or guardian can also qualify for free school meals.

Your child may qualify if you are an asylum seeker.

Children who are younger than the compulsory age for starting school but in full-time education can also get free school meals.

Pupil Premium is an important payment for schools and a really good opportunity for eligible parents to get even more support for their children in schools.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about Pupil Premium funding and how it is being used to benefit your child, please speak to Mrs Tiernan deputy headteacher.

If you think your child may possibly be eligible for free school meals, even if you don't want your child to eat school meals, please call into the school office or complete the form below and return it with evidence to the office.  Every child who is eligible generates valuable income for the school.
