Miss Hobday's class 2018 - 2019

Miss Hobday’s class have an exciting and busy year ahead! As well as enhancing our Maths and English skills, we will become investigators to understand why and how our own planet works in Science. We will be carrying out practical experiments in class, some of which include making our own parachutes of different sizes and seeing if air resistance plays a part in how long they take to fall to the ground.

Our R.E topic for the Spring term is based around inspirational people, including Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, Ellie Simmons and Albert Einstein. This will cross over into our English topic when we write biographies.

Each Friday, Mr Thomas from Trafford Music Services comes in to teach the class the trumpet while also teaching us new songs and music notation. Currently, we are building up to a performance at the end of the ten weeks to show off our musical talents!

Geography this term takes us to North and South America as we learn about their climates and population in comparison to our own. Our favourite thing to do is to use Google Earth to travel to new places on each of the seven continents, which help us to envision fascinating landscapes and landmarks.

Reading is a big part of Year 5 life and we encourage the children to read a wide range of genres to help build their imagination and expose them to a wider range of vocabulary. Our reading corner is always open for children who want a quiet area to enjoy their book!
